Ronaldo causes stir at his former club

Free agent Cristiano Ronaldo has caused a stir at one of his previous clubs after he was spotted at his former employers' training ground ahead of his next move.

The 37-year-old's 2022 FIFA World Cup dream came to an end last week when Portugal were knocked out the competition by Morocco in the quarter-finals.

While the veteran centre-forward was surrounded by controversy in the lead-up to the showpiece following his exit from Manchester United, he struggled to make an impact at the tournament, scoring just once in five appearances in Qatar.

Ronaldo was also the subject of heavy speculation regarding his future throughout the competition, with various reports linking him with a mega-money move to Saudi Arabia, where the two clubs, Al Nassr and Al-Hilal, are said to be battling for his signature.

Following his departure form Qatar and with his next move still pending, the marksman has now been spotted training at Real Madrid's Valdebebas training ground.

According to Spanish outlet Revelo, the centre-forward has gone back to Madrid, where he still has a home, to work on an individual fitness programme.

It is understood the five-time Ballon d'Or winner did not have any contact with any of his former teammates, who trained in a separate part of the facility, with part of the agreement for the goal-poacher to train there being that he have a private venue to do so.

Despite that, though, some of Los Blancos' younger players were excited to meet the former United star and have pictures taken with him.

Real are believed to have no plans to offer him a contract, however, while Al Nassr manager Rudi Garcia has already expressed his excitement at potentially working with Ronaldo, although nothing has officially been agreed.

"I think that any coach would be delighted to train a great star like Cristiano, and already in November 2021 I was very close to going to United [after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked]," he said, per the Daily Mirror.

"They chose Ralf Rangnick, but I met twice with John Murtough and Darren Fletcher [United's director of football and technical director, respectively].

"I came very close to coaching this club and was very motivated to go, who wouldn't be motivated to coach United? Any coach. United's simple interest has allowed me to be sure of my ambitions in the future.

"I have always thought that the great players are the easiest to manage because they are very intelligent, I verified this with Francesco Totti at Roma."
