Atletico Madrid president welcomes Lionel Messi to join Luis Suarez at the club

Suarez joined Los Colchoneros last week following a protracted transfer saga which resulted in Messi publicly admonishing Barca for the way in which the Uruguay forward was forced out of the Camp Nou.

Speaking to Cadena Cope, Atleti chief Cerezo has since commented on the situation and cheekily suggested that the six-time Ballon d'Or winner was welcome to join his club if he wished to play with Suarez again.

"In life, if you want something... If Leo Messi wants to play with Luis Suarez, I tell him the same thing that is said with nougat, 'Let him come home for Christmas'. With the desire, anything is possible," he said.

Cerezo also revealed that the negotiations with the Catalan giants over Suarez's deal were straightforward and that he has a strong relationship with his Barca counterpart, Jose Maria Bartomeu.

"Everything [with the Suarez signing] went perfectly well. Bartomeu is a good friend and a great president," the 72-year-old added.

"At the moment things are not going well at Barcelona, but he has acted as he had to act and nothing else has happened. The signing was not complicated, the player plays where he wanted to play."
