'First move' made in Messi's future

A first move has now reportedly been made regarding Paris Saint-Germain star Lionel Messi's eagerly anticipated decision as to where he will be playing his football next season.

With the Argentina superstar having little more than four months remaining on his contract at the Parc des Princes, he is widely expected to decide where his future lies soon.

There has been no shortage of interest from other clubs for his signature, with FC Barcelona, Inter Miami and Al Hilal having all been linked with a move for the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner.

It has now emerged that Messi is finally ready to discuss his prospects following PSG's narrow 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie on Tuesday night.

According to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, a first meeting regarding a potential contract renewal between the French giants and Messi's agent, his father Jorge Messi, took place on Wednesday.

With the negotiations having just kicked off, it is understood that the length of the new deal, salary, and other details are yet to be agreed, with more meetings expected to take place in the coming weeks.

On Wednesday, French newspaper L'Equipe also claimed that the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner wants to continue playing in Europe, and has not received any formal offers from other clubs, including boyhood side Barca.

It is further suggested, however, that if PSG bow out of the Champions League at the round of 16 stage, the result could have a considerable bearing on the attacker's decision on his future in Paris.
