The winger has now been fined £2.6 million (R61 million) for breaching environmental rules during the construction of his coastal mansion in Brazil.

According to the local council, a number of environmental infractions took place "in the construction of an artificial lake at the mansion".

The luxury project is understood to have violated rules regarding the use and movement of freshwater sources, and rock and sand.

An investigation into the matter was opened in June, and Brazilian authorities have now confirmed he will be fined.

According to Sky News, "dozens of infractions" took place, including "carrying out work subject to environmental control without authorisation, capture and diversion of river water without authorisation, and removal of land and suppression of vegetation without authorisation".

It is said that, along with the fine, the case will be brought to the attention of the local attorney general's office, the state civil police, the environmental protection office, and other governmental bodies.

Neymar has found himself on the wrong side of the law in recent times, with Luc Wattelle, the mayor of Bougival, the suburb he lives in in Paris, having had to get involved to calm tempers after the footballer's numerous house parties left his neighbours "infuriated".

This incident was reported in February, with the forward's 31st birthday party being described as a "wild bash" that went on until midnight, resulting in neighbours ringing the police to intervene.
