PSG chief hits out at 'disrespectful' Messi

Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has hit out at former star Lionel Messi for not showing the club "respect".

The Argentine departed the French capital to join David Beckham's Inter Miami side in July last year. After his departure, however, the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner opened up about feeling discontent at his former club.

In an interview with ESPN last year, Messi revealed that he and his family had it "rough" in Paris and described his time at the Ligue 1 giants as "two difficult years".

The attacker also revealed that after his World Cup triumph in 2022, the club did not honour him enough publicly for the iconic achievement.

"I was the only player of the [squad] that didn't get a [club] recognition," he said.

Khelaifi, meanwhile, seemed to not take too kindly to the former Barcelona star's public comments, admitting that he has great respect for the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner but also expressing some dislike towards his actions.

"We talk when we are there, not when we are gone. I have great respect for him [Messi] but if someone wants to talk badly about Paris Saint-Germain after [his departure], it's not good," he told RMC Sport via GOAL.

"That's not respect. He's not a bad guy, but I don't like that. It's not just for him, but for everyone."
