PSG 'make new ruling' on Messi's future after Saudi trip

With Paris Saint-Germain having reportedly suspended Lionel Messi on Tuesday evening, the French giants are now said to have come to a big decision on the Argentine superstar's future in Paris.

PSG are reported to have taken serious action against Messi following the player's unauthorised visit to Saudi Arabia just hours after they were handed a 3-1 home defeat by Lorient on Sunday.

The 35-year-old was said to have requested permission to travel from his manager Christophe Galtier and sporting director Luis Campos, but flew out of the country without receiving their approval for the trip.

It is understood Messi had gone to Saudi Arabia as part of his commitments as a tourism ambassador for the country.

Various reports in France suggest that the head coach initially planned to give his players a break from training on Monday, but the Ligue 1 defeat convinced him otherwise and he expected his squad at training at the beginning of the week, with Messi not being in attendance as a result of his trip to the Middle East.

Les Parisiens are understood to have slapped the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner with a two-week unpaid suspension, which entails the forward not participating in training with his teammates as well as in matches.

With his future also in the balance given his expiring contract in June, PSG have now also decided against extending the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner's contract following his disciplinary breach, according to L'Equipe.

It is said that Messi will now have only three more games left to play for the club when he returns from his suspension, and will be allowed to leave as a free agent, contrary to PSG's reported initial interest in extending his stay in the Parc des Princes.
