£85m Man Utd star accused of assaulting woman

One of Manchester United's most expensive signings ever has now reportedly been accused of assault by a 22-year-old woman.

According to the Metro, a Brazilian woman filed a police report in Sao Paulo on Monday accusing United star Antony, who joined the Red Devils from Ajax Amsterdam last year in a deal worth a reported £85 million (R2 billion), of domestic violence and infliction of bodily injuries.

It is said the case document also includes several allegations of violence by the player towards the lady, with the first incident believed to have taken place at a Sao Paulo nightclub in July last year.

The woman in question also alleges she was attacked by the Selecao winger again in January this year, and that she needed surgery as a result of an injury she sustained during the ordeal.

Two more attacks are said to have taken place in England, where the unnamed victim suffered a finger cut after Antony broke a glass, with police believed to have received an image of the cut.

The most recent incident is reported to have occurred on 20 May, during which the former Ajax Amsterdam attacker is alleged to have made death threats towards the woman during a telephone conversation.

She has since been asked by police to undergo a medical exam after opening a case, while it is further stated that she has not been in contact with the footballer since 28 May.

Furthermore, she is also said to have requested urgent protective measures from Brazilian authorities, while both United and the player are yet to address the allegations.

Antony would not be the first Red Devils player accused of assaulting a woman in recent times, with Mason Greenwood having had similar accusations aimed at him last year.

While those charges were dropped in February, the English striker remains suspended by the club pending an international investigation, which is expected to conclude in the near future.
