Ten Hag: What I told Man Utd stars after Liverpool stalemate

Erik ten Hag has revealed what he told his Manchester United stars in the dressing room after their goalless draw with Liverpool.

The struggling Red Devils ran away with a point from Anfield on Sunday, frustrating the Merseyside club, who relinquished their top spot on the Premier League table as a result.

Liverpool recorded 34 shots at goal, of which eight were on target, and dominated possession with 69%, but were unable to breach Andre Onana's goal.

Subsequently, the Reds would walk away from the stalemate as the more frustrated of the two sides.

United had gone into the game on a two-match losing streak, having suffered a shock 3-0 loss to Brentford in the EPL the previous weekend, and then suffered a 1-0 UEFA Champions League defeat to German giants Bayern Munich that saw them crash out of Europe.

The Manchester side would also have been haunted by their last trip to Anfield, which ended with them being on the receiving end of a 7-0 thumping.

However, they managed to snatch a point away from home instead, and Ten Hag was pleased with what his players brought to the game and urged them to do so on a more regular basis.

"I said that after the game in the dressing room: I'm very proud of this team," the Dutch tactician said, per Manchester Evening News.

"We should do this more often. I said this.

"For instance, Newcastle was also a tough game, we make one mistake, we switch off and concede the goal. But when you stay in the game, when you are disciplined in your game plan, finally it opens up and you can take your chances or get two, three, four passes in after the ball regains, get the switches in and then you can really be more dominant in the game.

"We mentioned [the 7-0] but I said to them last year we played them three times, we lost one time but we beat them two times. We are capable of beating Liverpool and we proved today [what] we are capable of if we bring this every game on the pitch.

"First of all, we are a hard team to beat, but from that point, we can go and win games and also big games."
