A former Manchester United coach has admitted he would return to the club should current manager Erik ten Hag be replaced by a certain tactician.
It is widely believed that Ten Hag's job is once again on the line after the club's underwhelming start to the 2024/25 season.

The club is 13th on the Premier League table after just six matches, and have already lost three games, including a resounding 3-0 defeat at the hands of Liverpool.
The pressure is now on for Ten Hag to deliver in their upcoming fixtures, as various reports suggest that he could be sacked by the end of this month if results don't go the team's way.
Former assistant coach to Sir Alex Ferguson, Rene Meulensteen, has now admitted that he would grab the opportunity to return to the club's coaching staff if Ten Hag's tenure was brought to an end and assistant coach Ruud van Nistelrooy was give the reins.
Speaking to BoyleSports, Meulensteen said: "If the chance to return to the club under Ruud van Nistelrooy became a possibility, then I'd be happy to have a conversation about it.
"The best years I've had as a coach were at Manchester United, without a shadow of a doubt, and I was very fortunate to be there through a very successful period under Sir Alex Ferguson.
"If the opportunity came about to return, I'd have to consider what I would be able to contribute when thinking about the level of Manchester United. It's the same as when we used to scout players.
"We would only bring in players that could make a difference and I'd think about myself in that way if it came to a role on the staff, but I do know Ruud and I know that we would be able to work well together again."

Meulensteen began working at United back in 2001 until 2013, although this was interrupted by a brief six-month spell with Brondby IF. His last job was as an assistant coach for the Australia national team, which he left earlier this year.
