Man Utd boss addresses future of in-form African star

With African stars being at the forefront of Manchester United's recent resurgence, manager Ruben Amorim has addressed the future of one of those players.

Since Amorim took over from Erik ten Hag in October, the Red Devils have been in scintillating form, going unbeaten in three matches across all competitions.

Key to this revival has been the outstanding contributions of their African contingent, with Amad Diallo, Andre Onana and Noussair Mazraoui all nominated for the club's Player of the Month award.

Although Moroccan defender Mazraoui ultimately claimed the accolade, the performances of Ivorian winger Amad Diallo have also caught Amorim's eye.

With Diallo's contract set to expire in June 2025, the Portuguese tactician has made it clear he sees the 22-year-old as an integral part of United's future plans.

"I think he [Diallo] wants to stay, and we want him to stay," Amorim said, as per the club's official website. "So that is clear, and we will find a solution."

Diallo, who has traditionally played in more attacking roles, has excelled in an unfamiliar wingback position under the Portuguese.

The Red Devils boss praised the Ivorian's adaptability and highlighted how his versatility fits perfectly into the team's evolving tactics.

"I think that's one of the great advantages of Amad," Amorim added. "He's very good for me. He's very good playing in that position, but also playing between the lines because he has a good control, and he seems faster with the ball than without it.

"It's something that he has, and he's capable of playing in both positions. He can play in different systems, and in the future, we may switch to a different system. So he is that kind of player we need in the team."

As United continue to climb the Premier League table, Diallo's performances could prove pivotal, both in the short and long term, as Amorim builds his squad around players who offer such tactical flexibility.
