Man Utd 'open door' for €95m star to leave

With one player already confirmed to be leaving Manchester United next month, the Premier League giants have now reportedly opened the exit door for one of their most expensive signings ever to leave.

It was announced on Friday afternoon that Phil Jones, who is one of the longest-serving players in the squad, will leave the club at the end of this season after 12 years at Old Trafford.

More departures are expected, with recent reports claiming others such as Jadon Sancho, Brandon Williams and Axel Tuanzebe could also be set for an exit as manager Erik ten Hag looks to further build the team to his specifications.

The Dutch boss has already brought in five permanent signings, namely Christian Eriksen, Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia and Antony. However, not all of them have lived up to expectations in their debut campaign with the Red Devils, with the latter having been subjected to a lot of criticism this term.

The Brazilian attacker has registered 10 goals and five assists in 45 games so far, but expectations appear to have been much higher given the lofty €95 million (R1.9 billion) transfer fee paid to Ajax Amsterdam to secure his services last year.

Fans and pundits have grown frustrated with the player's antics and decision-making on the pitch, which seems to have echoed to the decision-makers at Carrington.

According to Fichajes, United are now willing to let Antony leave the Theatre of Dreams just one season after making him their second-most expensive signing ever after Paul Pogba.

It is said that Ten Hag's side would be open to letting him join another team in the Premier League or go abroad, and have accepted that it will be impossible to recoup the full amount of money they spent on the player.

Antony himself appears to have no plans to leave, however.

Speaking to United's official website earlier this week, he revealed that he "hopes to spend a long time" in Manchester.

"I feel like I've settled in and grown accustomed to the city of Manchester," the 23-year-old said.

"There are quite a few Brazilians here. Me and Casemiro are always hanging out, we're always doing something.

"I've settled into the city and I'm loving life here. I hope I can spend a long time here.

"Definitely [knowing Casemiro, Fred and Lisandro Martinez helped him to adapt]. And not just those guys, but Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot as well.

"They've helped me a lot, as has our keeper, David [de Gea]. Having this support, being able to get advice from them, have them show me around and introduce me to things means a great deal.

"I'm really happy to have been welcomed in like this by all the players here."
