Ten Hag makes shock Man Utd statement after Barca victory

Manager Erik ten Hag made a shock statement following Manchester United's comeback victory over FC Barcelona on Thursday night.

The Red Devils secured a 4-3 aggregate win over Xavi Hernandez's side, winning the second leg of their UEFA Europa League last 32 tie at Old Trafford 2-1 courtesy of goals from Brazilian duo Fred and Antony after Barca had taken the lead through a Robert Lewandowski penalty.

While they remain first in LaLiga, the Spanish giants are now out of the Europe after an early exit from the UEFA Champions League earlier this season.

United, meanwhile, have now progressed to the round of 16, and will find out who they play next in the Europa League draw that will take place on Friday afternoon.

With the Manchester club still in the hunt for four trophies following their triumph over Barcelona, an exuberant Ten Hag has since claimed that his team can now "beat anyone".

"You need results to get that strong belief," the Dutch manager said, per ESPN.

"I think this is another step because when you can beat Barcelona, one of the best teams in this moment in Europe, then your belief can be really strong, then you are able to beat anyone.

"It was a magnificent night. I think it is brilliant when you can beat Barcelona, eight points ahead of Real Madrid in La Liga and we have seen in this week Real Madrid playing.

"We did a magnificent performance and we have to take it with us in the season, take it with us in the belief that we can win big games."

With United's win over Leicester City on Sunday seeing them become the team in Europe's top five leagues with the most wins across all competitions this season, the Red Devils have now extended that record.
