Real Madrid 'decide' Benzema's replacement

Real Madrid are now said to have decided who their replacement for Karim Benzema will be amid reports suggesting the Frenchman is seriously considering a move to Saudi Arabia.

Los Blancos could potentially lose their leading marksman in the next few weeks as he is out of contract at the end of June and, to date, no new deal has been agreed between the club and the player.

The Spanish giants have also made no secret of the fact that they want a new striker ahead of next season, with manager Carlo Ancelotti having recently confirmed that several options are being looked at.

This has created further uncertainty as to whether or not Benzema, 35, will be given a new contract at the Santiago Bernabeu, while reports also suggest that Real are planning for the potential blockbuster signing of either Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland in 2024, with this viewed as a succession plan for the ageing 2022 Ballon d'Or winner.

Benzema has reportedly been presented with a handsome offer by 2022/23 Saudi Pro League champions Al Ittihad, and he is believed to be seriously considering the proposal.

According to Fichajes, Real are also considering other options themselves, with the club now said to have earmarked Harry Kane of Tottenham Hotspur as Benzema's replacement should the former Olympique Lyon star leave.

It is further claimed that Los Blancos will look to try to bring down the €100 million (R2.1 billion) price tag on the England striker, who has one year remaining on his current contract in London.

The Spurs talisman is also believed to be a priority target for Manchester United, but Real reportedly have a slight advantage in the situation due to Lilywhites CEO Daniel Levy's reluctance to sell his best player to a Premier League rival.

With Marco Asensio and Mariano Diaz also said to be set for imminent departures from the LaLiga giants, Los Merengues are believed to have their eye on Nigeria star Samuel Chukwueze as a potential arrival from Villarreal too.
