Despite all the attacking talent in the squad, though, it is now reported that the Spanish giants are looking to further strengthen their team at the end of this season with another big-name player.

According to Spanish journalist Mario Cortegana, the Madrid giants has been working on a deal to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz.

"Real Madrid are sowing their seeds. There are already more seeds planted here, it is more advanced," Cortegana explained, according to Fichajes.

"But we are in mid-September, I am not 100% sure that the club is going to make an offer for him or that it will be in line with what Bayer Leverkusen is asking for.

"So... yes, Wirtz is very high on the list, but I am being honest and at this point, I cannot give you any more information than this."

The German sensation is one of the most highly rated young players in the world today, and his displays for Germany and Xabi Alonso's side have seen him rewarded with a 2024 Ballon d'Or nomination.

The 21-year-old was instrumental in Leverkusen's historic Bundesliga triumph last term, registering 11 goals and 12 assists in 32 matches to help the club to their first-ever league title.

Wirtz also won the Bundesliga Player of the Season prize too, beating goal-machines Harry Kane and Serhou Guirassy.
