Orlando Pirates legend Innocent Mayoyo says Hugo Broos deserves another seven years on top of his current contract with Bafana Bafana.
Broos shocked the entire continent when he finished among the top four of the Africa Cup of Nations, using mostly locally-based players.
"We could have done better, but it was not good enough for that standard," Mayoyo tells KickOff.
"Otherwise the chances that we got, we should have buried them if we had strong and clinical attacking players. That was the only thing missing. We just need to build from here. There is a good picture.
"If I was SAFA, I would give Broos another seven years. He missed the vision of 2022 yes, but he didn't fail, he tried. If you fire Broos now who else are you going to appoint as Bafana Bafana coach?
"Broos is an AFCON winner, he's been coaching professional football for over 50 years. The only person who can replace him is Pitso Mosimane.
"As long as he is given enough time, Broos will qualify us for the FIFA World Cup. He already knows what needs to be built on. He could have done better with the likes of Fagrie Lakay and Lyle Foster. With those chances we had yesterday, we could have scored, only if we had those two players."
