Chelsea coach: Why I cut Aubameyang from UCL squad

Chelsea manager Graham Potter has explained the shock decision to cut Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from the UEFA Champions League squad.

The Gabonese striker scored two goals in the Champions League group stages, but was not included in the squad for the knockout rounds.

Aubameyang has fallen down the pecking order since Graham Potter took over from Thomas Tuchel in September last year.

Potter says it was a tough decision to leave out Aubameyang, but is counting on the striker in the Premier League for the rest of the campaign.

"I don't think it's going to be difficult because Pierre is a professional and of course I understand he'll be disappointed," Potter told reporters, as per Metro.

"It was a tough decision, a tough call, we had three coming in and two had to go out so he was the one that missed out.

"He's done nothing wrong at all. We wanted to give David some game time today, in terms of seeing where he's at and giving him that opportunity. I think you saw that one flash that he's got.

"Pierre's just unfortunate and he'll be fighting for his place for the rest of the season.'
