Juve aim to spoil Xavi's swansong

Xavi on Thursday announced he would be leaving the Catalans after 24 years at the Camp Nou as he joins Qatar club Al Sadd, meaning the Champions League Final will be his last match in a Blaugrana shirt.

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri hailed the midfielder as “extraordinary”, yet hopes his side will be able to spoil the veteran’s farewell as they go in search of their first Champions League title in 19 years.

"It will be the last game for Xavi, an extraordinary player for Barcelona and the Spanish national team, but we hope to spoil the party," he told reporters, before lauding Barcelona’s attacking threat.

"Barca have three great players in attack in Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez and they have Andres Iniesta dictating the pace in midfield.

"They are used to playing in finals, but we won't be at a disadvantage because of our inexperience and our positivity will be important,” he continued.

"We will work on the mental and physical aspects to get into optimal condition for the game."

Already-crowned champions Juventus face Champions League-chasing Napoli in their next Serie A clash on Saturday evening, with their coach hoping to continue their preparations for the European Cup final in positive fashion while preserving his side’s undefeated record at home this season.

“It's an important game ahead of the Champions League final,” he said. “In order to keep the team in good physical condition, we have to keep training and playing.

"The game doesn't mean anything in terms of the league title, but we can keep our undefeated run of home games going."

The Champions League final will take place in Berlin on 6 June.
