Salah was the big star of the night, as not only was he named UEFA's Player of the Match, but he also set a stunning new record, solidifying his spot as one of the best footballers to come out of Africa.

It was the Egyptian's 45th goal in the Champions League, which means he is now the highest-scoring African footballer in the tournament's history, surpassing Chelsea legend Didier Drogba's 44 goals, according to UEFA.

The Ivorian's last goal in the UCL came nearly 10 years ago, against Schalke in November 2014.

Moreover, Bologna are now the 25th different opponent Salah has scored against in Europe for Liverpool, according to the club's official website, while the Egypt captain also became the first Reds player ever to score in five consecutive home UCL games.

Mac Allister, whose goal was set up by Salah, lavished praise on the Pharaoh after the tie, telling on TNT Sports: "A goal is a goal, in this team when we make a run, Mo [Salah] can see everything. Really happy for him, I think it was a good night for everyone."

Goalkeeper Alisson echoed the Argentine's praise for Salah, stating: "He's a player that helps us a lot, sometimes it looks like he's not in the game but suddenly a perfect touch, he puts the ball in the top corner. That's his quality, his strength as well.

"We are lucky to have him, but we always have to highlight the hard work the team had and a lot to improve but good enough to win the game."

Salah, meanwhile, will be out of contract at the end of the season as things stand, and it remains unclear whether or not the Red hierarchy will offer him a new deal.
