Real Madrid and Manchester City could not be separated in their UEFA Champions League first-leg tie after playing to a 1-1 draw at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Los Blancos manager Carlo Ancelotti brought in Luka Modric and Antonio Rudiger for the suspended Militao and Aurelien Tchouameni, while Ruben Dias, Kyle Walker, Bernardo Silva and Jack Grealish returned for the Citizens.
The Citizens looked lively early on and went close to opening inside the opening 15 minutes, as Kevin de Bruyne saw his long-range strike palmed away by Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
Dias came to the visitors' rescue in the 25th minute, with the Portuguese defender providing a vital interception in the six-yard to cut out Vinicius Junior's cross, which seemed destined for an un-marked Karim Benzema at the far post.
The home side were happy to play on the break with City dominating and they were rewarded ten minutes before the halftime break when Vinicius got his seventh goal in the tournament with a wonderful strike from distance.
City came out firing for the second half as De Bruyne was denied by Courtois in a one-on-one situation while David Alaba produced a superb block to deny Erling Haaland in the box a couple minutes later.
Pep Guardiola's charges did get back on level terms just after the hour mark through De Bruyne, who found the back of the net with a wonderful strike of his own that left Courtois with no chance.
Los Blancos had the chance to get back in front in the 78th minute when Benzema got on the end of Toni Kroos' well-weighted cross, however his header was kept out by a fine save from Ederson.
Ederson did have another vital save to make in second-half stoppage time, this time keeping out a powerful effort from Tchouameni to ensure his side walked away with the 1-1 draw ahead of next week's second leg at the Etihad.
