Percy Tau set for Manchester United showdown in UEFA Europa League

Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau has enjoyed a whirlwind journey in Europe that's seen him up against Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, and now Manchester United beckons.

Club Brugge host United in the last 16 Europa League first-leg tie at the Jan Breydel Stadium on Thursday before the trip to Old Trafford a week later.

While Tau has struggled for game time at the Belgian league leaders since the start of 2020, his recent display in their win over Beveren offers manager Phillipe Clement a selection headache.

The 25-year-old bagged an assist for the stoppage-time winning goal of Mats Rits and with January signing Michael Krmencik failing to score in his first three games, a potential tactical switch is on the cards.

At 1.91m in height, the €6.5 million (R106m) signing provides Brugge with a new dimension, but Tau's pace and trickery that was used effectively on the counter against Real and PSG is likely to earn him a place in the team, according to reports in Belgian media.

"We will play our own game and give our all," Clement said, as per The Herald. "I'm really looking forward to this.

"One thing is certain: our stadium will be sold out. It's a new challenge for my squad. I hope I will be celebrating afterwards."
