Ngezana's boss reacts to FCSB's shock 4-0 thumping

Siyabonga Ngezana's manager at FCSB has reacted to his side's shock 4-0 thumping by Scottish giants Rangers on Thursday.

It was a debut to forget for Ngezana in the UEFA Europa League as his side conceded four goals without response at Ibrox Stadium in Scotland.

The Bafana Bafana defender missed his team's opening two fixtures in the competition due to a muscle injury, and the Romanian giants won both those games, against RFS and PAOK.

Ngezana was selected for their third game in the showpiece this season, but things did not go according to plan at all, and according to UEFA, FCSB have now lost each of their last eight matches against British opposition in European competitions, including qualifiers.

Reacting to the resounding defeat, FCSB boss Elias Charalambous said he warned his side that Rangers were dangerous when in possession.

"A black evening for us. We knew we would have a tough opponent ahead of us. The problem is that we conceded four goals in the same way. At this level, you pay for everything. I was saying that before the game, we have to be in the best shape," he said, according to DigiSport.

"At half-time, the referee told me he made a mistake with the [disallowed] goal scored by [David] Miculescu. It happened, and now we have a game on Sunday. We have to prepare 100%.

"I said they are dangerous when they have the ball, they are very dangerous and they like pressing. At this level, the details make the difference. When you lose a match, you're sure to be upset. We have to prepare now for the next match.

"We knew from the beginning that we would have a tough schedule and play three games. We enjoy playing a lot, but we don't have much time. We knew that such things can happen in football, but we have to find solutions.

"We played a bad game, but we have to remember what good games we played before.

"I definitely pissed off the fans that came all the way too. Starting from Sunday, I am convinced that the players will give everything to make the fans happy again."

FCSB still have five matches to play in the league phase of the Europa League, and one of them includes another British opponent, Manchester United, who they will face in January 2025.
