Former Cape Town City and now Petro de Luanda star Hugo Marques has praised Mamelodi Sundowns counterpart Ronwen Williams' display in the first leg of their African Football League quarter-final, lauding him as the best player of that match.
A year removed from their historic CAF Champions League quarter-final triumph over the DStv Premiership juggernauts, the Angolan giants were looking to cause yet another last-eight upset, this time in the AFL.

Judging by how the first half of the first leg went, it appeared as though that might be the case, with two of the standout players for Os Petroliferos in that period being Gilberto and Alexandre Guedes.
Both attackers forced some incredible saves out of Bafana Bafana No. 1 Williams, two of which came from a penalty kick and its subsequent rebound, before Sundowns turned the game around in the second half to emerge as 2-0 victors.
While commentating on the tie, Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan hailed the Gqeberha native as the Man of the Match despite the winning goals from Marcelo Allende and Thapelo Maseko, and Williams' Petro counterpart Marques echoed the former Black Stars captain's sentiments prior to the second leg.
"And of course [Ronwen] Williams, for me, was Man of the Match by far," the 37-year-old said in a pre-match press conference KickOff attended.
Having played 37 times for the Citizens during his time in the Premier Soccer League, the Portuguese-born shot-stopper was also asked if he had been imparting some knowledge on what he might know about Masandawana
"I think they [Petro] have more knowledge [than me], because they played a big game against Sundowns two years ago in [CAF] Champions League [before he joined them]," Marques added.

"I played here in the PSL and the other cup, the MTN8, I played against them in a cup as well, but I think the knowledge of the big games, they have that."
