Mammila: SA coaches should watch Sundowns three times a day

Former Chippa United head coach Morgan Mammila was full of praise for Mamelodi Sundowns following a 5-1 hammering of Royal AM that stretched the Brazilians' lead at the top of the DStv Premiership.

The Brazilian tightened their grip on the 22/23 Premiership title with a dominant performance against Thwihli Thwahla on Tuesday evening, effectively eliminating all but SuperSport United from the possibility of challenging for the league title.

"If you are coach in South Africa, and you don't watch Mamelodi Sundowns more than three times a day, I'm afraid you're in the wrong," Mammila told Sports Night Amplified With Andile Ncube.

"Sundowns have set the highest standards. For you as a coach, as a team, you need to play good football and you need to beat Sundowns.

"There is only one team that all coaches can't wait to play against. They can't wait to beat that team. It's only one team. it's Sundowns."

As the season draws to an end, Sundowns remain undefeated across all competitions since Rulani Mokwena took the helm as head coach in October last year.

It wasn't the first time Mammila has extended due credit to the Brazilians. After Sundowns' 2-1 win over a Mamilla-coached Chippa United, the 51-year-old suggested that even Bafana Bafana could could take a few notes from Sundowns.

"The Safa president must ask Motsepe, 'how did you get Sundowns to where it is now?', it's very simple. We know the person who started this system at Sundowns was coach Pitso [Mosimane] and [now Sundowns coach] Rulani [Mokwena] was there.

"Why can't [we] take these two guys to help the national team so that every day all of you, will go to watch Bafana? If there is a [Sundowns] match this weekend you will be back here at Loftus to watch.

Meanwhile, Hugo Broos selected 10 Sundowns players in his 35-man preliminary Bafana Bafana squad for upcoming crucial Afcon qualifiers against Liberia to be played later this month.
