High-flying Maseko has his say on European move

SuperSport United's Thapelo Maseko has had his say on the possibility of playing in Europe amid reports of interested clubs abroad.

The 20-year-old has an electric start to life as a professional footballer in his first season. With four goals and two assists from 23 appearances this season, Maseko has established himself as one most highly-rated young talents in the country.

His form has not gone unnoticed by potential suitors abroad, with SuperSport United CEO Stan Matthews understood to have turned down offers from Belgian outfit Westerlo for the services of Maseko, with the view to keep the winger for at least for one more season.

The attacker is not closing the door on switch to Europe in future.

"Of course, my dream to play in Europe, it's always been the dream. [Whether in the] Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, anywhere. It's been a dream of mine," Maseko told KickOff.

The club's head coach Gavin Hunt has also been vocal in urging the youngster to stay on board.

"Yes, he [Maseko] needs another season with us, he's still very raw, and still needs another season with us," Hunt said in April.

For now, the South African Under-23 star insists his focus remains with Matsatsantsa and an upcoming clash against Kaizer Chiefs.

"My focus is on the next game on Saturday, the Chiefs game obviously. It's an important game for us, it's a big game because we are fighting for that second-spot," added Maseko.

The clash will be played at Royal Bafokeng Stadium with a kick-off time of 15:00.
