Sundowns' Mashego explains limited playing time

Defender Terrence Mashego has shed light on his reduced playing time at Mamelodi Sundowns and the left-back looks to secure a return to action following an injury.

Mashego was unveiled as a high-profile signing for the Brazilians ahead of the 22/23 season but has found playing time hard to come by.

The 25-year-old has made 10 appearances across all competitions for Sundowns, starting just two and has been riddled by injuries.

Speaking at Tshwane derby press conference on Tuesday, Mashego explained why his playing time has been limited.

"I would say, honestly, I'm not in the team because the to be fair the team has been dong well," Mashego said.

"Ab has been consistent. Aubrey has been consistent, so for me, I just need to be honest with myself, just to observe and be patient with myself because I just came back."

"So I just need to focus and make sure that I'm well prepared when I get my opportunity.

"Aubrey and OB are completely different players, myself include, we are different players. I would say that's why they have the three of us. There are some games that require let's say AB because he is more of a reserved left back.

"There are games where they need Aubrey to invert because he is more like a midfielder compared to AB and myself. Then there are some games whereby they need a bit speed, a bit of aggression and that's where I came in."

Mashego could have a chance to make a return to the Sundowns starting eleven when The Brazilians take on rivals SuperSport United on Wednesday evening at Lucas Moripe Stadium. Kick-off is at 19:30.
