'It's now back to the PSL for Downs to collect easy three points'

Mamelodi Sundowns recent victory over Pyramids FC in the CAF Champions League has provoked some serious opinions from KickOff readers! Here's a look!

What's the story

Downs moved up to seven points from four games in Group A, level on points with second-placed TP Mazembe. The fixture was much talked about in the lead up to match, as their previous 0-0 draw at Loftus Verfeld had a bit of a dramatic aftermath.

Members of the Egyptian team, including their coach Jaime Pacheco felt that they deserved to win the clash in Pretoria and some even vowed to grab all three points in Cairo.

However, the reigning DStv Premiership champions kept their cool and secured a 1-0 win thanks to a 17th-minute strike by Teboho Mokoena. Reacting to the result on Facebook, KO readers had their say!

"Congratulations Downs family. It wasn't easy when Downs started participating in this games back then, the road was bumpy and dusty, at least now there is light at the end of the tunnel. Respect the power of a visionary man (Motsepe). Mr Motsepe deserve much better respect than what we see on Facebook," says Mlungisi Zondi.

"The biggest team in South Africa 6x champions in a row have done it again representing our country in the continent, thanks a lot Mamelodi Sundowns," says Sixolile Sxo Ngomthi.

"Now its back to the PSL fast-fast to collect those easy 3 points against Cape Town City in Cape town," says UJita Victor.

"It must be real painful to be a Chiefs fan right now," says Nkosij Jay.

"Best team in the world, now back to PSL to farm against this useless teams here," says Phumlani Khumalo.

"I think we must play our home games in Egypt," says Dannie Nyoni.

"One more win and we're in the quarterfinals," says Lovemore Sibanda.

"I remember last season against Richards Bay, it was Zungu, Mbule, and Jali in the midfield - it was explosive football. The chefs were all in the kitchen at the same time, I couldn't sit down. Absolutely brilliant footballers," says Jabulani Semelane.

"Rulani 'Ferguson' Mokwena, what a coach - proving his haters wrong everyday," says Buyani Mahletshetshe Dengs.

"What was Fiston Mayele saying about him losing a flight to SA, he threatened Sundowns as if he will punish the team in Cairo," says Zolani Tij.

"So Pyramids parked the bus at Loftus only to lose at home in front of their fans? Embarrassing," says Stephen Seome Ntsoane.

"That team has depth in their bench, remember Mbule's masterclass performance, Tebogo was awesome against Pyramids and got injured. Zungu was brought on and he didn't drop the ball. The same with our backline, whoever is brought on performs like he has been playing all along. This team is becoming stronger by the day, awesome work being done by the whole club in its entirety," says Phila Msibi.

Mokoena and Aubaas take aim at Mayele

Meanwhile, Downs duo Mokoena and Bathusi Aubaas ruthlessly trolled Pyramids marksman Fiston Mayele for the comments he made prior to the game. The DR Congo striker hit out at the Brazilians for denying him a visa to play in the first match between the two teams. He suggested that there would be a price to pay in the second match but it wasn't to be.

KO readers seemed more than happy to see Mayele swallow his own words.

"Sundowns know how to silence fools locally and continentally. The sky is the limit," says Michael T-co Ndima.

"Football doesn't play on Twitter," says Mokone Tlou Matlala.

"Mayele accused Sundowns of visa issues. Then after the second leg Mokoena and Aubaas clapped back. Now read the comments and see Sundowns fans twerking and farting, including both Pirates and Chiefs. You know why? Because their team is irrelevent without them talking about Soweto teams. Tshepi once said, 'All Sundowns fans are extremely stupid' and they prove that everyday," says Koebus Van Potgieter.

"Fiston Mayele is in the same WhatsApp group with Soweto fans. They win games on social media, I remember those words before the second leg against Jwaneng [Galaxy]. Even season 2019/2020 the League won on social media," says Sakhiwo Faku.

"I also asked Grant Kekana to take Mayele out of his pocket," says Goodenough Cele.

"At the end of the game Zungu called Mayele, the visa guy, and that's when the drama started," says Terrence Terro Mlilo.

"Only Kaizer Chiefs fans and Mr Visa were believing that a young team could beat the mighty Sundowns," says Simthembile Zimdaka.

"He should've asked chiefs, at Downs we talk in the field not on media platforms," says Sibusiso Encore.

"Slender, unconvincing win, exactly fluke win," says Ndumiso Cele.

"He thought he was Messi," says Litha Matshebelele.

"Serves him well he must learn to shut up next time Sundowns will made him eat humble pie," says Toni Montana.

"Good for him, he was having big mouth before the game," says Ronald Hlatshwayo.

"People get bored when you say Sundowns won. Okay they lost," says Mokete Kit.
