Real Madrid bagged a 15th UEFA Champions League title with a 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund in the final of Saturday evening.
The record holders were unchanged from their last match against Real Betis in LaLiga, but Dortmund recalled Julian Brandt and sacrificed the outgoing Marco Reus.
With very little to separate earlier on, Brandt came close to making the breakthrough when he cut inside from the left and fired wide of the far post.
Dortmund continued to go on the attack during the midway point when a through-ball released Niclas Fullkrug in on goal, but the upright came to the rescue of Los Blancos.
Further chances came the way of the Black and Yellow later on as the speed of Karim Adeyemi set him in down the line and in on the near post for a shot though Thibaut Courtois smothered him.
Madrid were on the back-foot and needed another strong save from Courtois to court a low powerful long-range strike from Marcel Sabitzer just before the break.
A different Real set out in the second half and very nearly got ahead with a telling free-kick by Toni Kroos, but Gregor Kobel managed to get firmly behind it.
It was a water-shed moment for Dortmund within the final stages as Reus came on from the bench in his last appearance for the club and replaced Adeyemi.
Soon after, Madrid were ahead as Dani Carvajal made his presence felt four minutes later when he leaped ahead of the defence to head in the opener with the delivery from Kroos.
Los Blancos looked keen to add more in the final ten minutes, but a string of saves from Kobel denied Kroos and Eduardo Camavinga.
The second goal did come though when a mis-placed pass at the back rolled onto Vinicius Junior who needed no second invitation but applied a deft finish seven minutes from time.
Kroos, who won't return to the playing field next season after calling time on his career at the end of this season, was replaced by Luka Modric.
The Spanish giants managed to hold out the remaining minutes and reclaimed the European crown, with Dortmund heart broken.
