Wydad chief makes 'transfers' request to Rulani

The president of Wydad Athletic Club, Hicham Ait Mena, has reportedly made a request to coach Rulani Mokwena regarding transfers.

According to Transfermarkt, Wydad have made 22 signings since Mokwena's arrival in July, with the bulk of them arriving on free transfers.

But despite the long list of reinforcements, which includes former Mamelodi Sundowns stars Abdelmounaim Boutouil and Cassius Mailula, it hasn't been smooth sailing for the Moroccan giants.

The squad seems yet to gel as well as the coach would have hoped, as they sit fifth in the Botola Pro 1 table with just five wins from 12 matches so far.

This has drawn some criticism towards the team and the South African tactician, as they were pelted with objects by angry supporters in October after a 1-0 defeat to RS Berkane, who spent almost the entirety of the second half down to 10 men.

There have also been reports of discontent between the manager and some players, with Mokwena and his seniors looking to re-evaluate the squad.

Now, according to Le Site Info, the Wydad president has asked Mokwena to draft a list of stars who are not part of his plans this season.

It is said that Ait Mena wants to determine the possibility of cutting ties with the names included on the list during the January transfer window.

Moreover, the plan is reportedly to reduce the size of the group to allow more space for quality reinforcements.

Wydad are reportedly determined to have a competitive squad as part of their project and in preparation for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

The Casablanca outfit have been drawn in Group G alongside Manchester City, Al Ain, and Juventus.
