Appollis off to Pirates? 'Let the headlines fly'

Polokwane City head coach Phuti Mohafe has taken a firm stance on the controversial future of star players Oswin Appollis and Thabang Matuludi.

The Limpopo-based outfit sent a signal of intent during the July transfer window by managing to fend off several teams' advances and keep the talismanic duo despite intense interest in their services.

However with the January window having opened, the club is expected to have its resolve tested once more.

Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, and Mamelodi Sundowns are reportedly potential destinations for the stand-out pair.

It is believed that currently, The Buccaneers are leading the race for Appollis and that a January deal between the two clubs is in the works.

Rise and Shine remain confident of keeping Appollis and Matuludi beyond the window, if Mohafe's recent comments after Sunday's 1-1 Betway Premiership draw against Sekhukhune United are anything to go by.

"You know, my man, this issue of our players being linked with other people (teams), let it be their own agenda," Mohafe told journalists.

"But I think we should not be engaging with it anymore because it's just rumours flying around and I would rather not comment on this.

"But as you check, the players are here, so that tells you something else (contrary to reports).

"Let the headlines fly, but I don't have to talk to them. The players know what is expected from them," added the head coach.

Mohafe's charges return to action when they take on an in-form SuperSport United at Lucas Moripe Masterpieces Stadium on 17 January.
