Man Utd's 'Greenwood boost' after PSG make big move

Manchester United are said to have been handed a huge boost amid reports that Paris Saint-Germain have made a massive offer for Mason Greenwood.

Now aged 23, Greenwood has been gradually reviving his career over the last two seasons, as it was embarrassingly halted by his arrest in January 2022 on charges of attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Although these charges were eventually dropped in February 2023, Greenwood ultimately went 18 months without kicking a ball before joining Getafe on loan in the 2023/24 season.

Earlier this season, United sold the forward to Olympique Marseille on a permanent deal for a fee of €26 million (R502 million). The Ligue 1 side tied the controversial marksman to a long-term contract until June 2029.

However, reports suggest that Greenwood may not stay at Marseille for that long, as PSG are interested in securing his signature and prising him away.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, PSG have submitted a lofty formal bid of €75 million (R1.4 billion) to Marseille to sign Greenwood at the end of the season.

The former England youth star has registered an impressive 15 goals and four assists in 24 games for Marseille in all competitions, as per Transfermarkt.

The English powerhouses, United, could receive a massive cash injection if the deal goes through, as they are said to have retained a 50% sell-on clause, guaranteeing themselves a significant financial return if Greenwood is sold for a big fee.
