Cape Town Spurs have announced the appointment of a retired star, who captained both Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates, in a coaching role following a recent departure at the club.
In a brief statement made by Spurs on Monday morning, it was confirmed Mhlongo would be joining the side as an assistant to Ernst Middendorp.

The 44-year-old officially hung up his boots in 2016 and was immediately recruited as part of Pirates' technical team and would later take over as head coach at National First Division (now Motsepe Foundation Championship) outfit TS Sporting.
Mhlongo then took a hiatus from coaching, although he occupied a seat at the South African Football Players Union (SAFPU), where he serves as coordinator and player development manager.
'Mayanga' admitted that despite his break, he had kept the door open on the chance to coach again.
"Wherever I can impart knowledge and help people grow, that's where you will find me," he told journalists at the Betway 12th Man event in December.
"You won't find me on the touchline if a team doesn't give me the platform to help these young boys. Whenever I am allowed to help these boys and human beings, I will be there. So, I don't know where that will be."

He fills in the void left by Vasili Manousakis, who has left to be Benni McCarthy's assistant in the Kenyan national team. He will be tasked with helping turn things around at Spurs - a side flirting with the relegation zone with just four wins to show from 20 matches.
