Euro boss 'poised' for African giants job after missing out on Usuthu

A well-known European coach in Africa is reportedly poised to take up a new job after missing out on a role at AmaZulu earlier this season.

According to Arabic news outlet WinWin.com, former Nigerian national team coach Jose Peseiro is set to become the new manager of Zamalek SC.

The Egyptian club is said to be close to parting ways with its current boss, Christian Gross, following some tension behind the scenes with management, as well as the team's performances beginning to decline.

It is reported that the Swiss coach will depart in the coming days, pending a formal announcement, and his replacement, Peseiro, is ready to step in after travelling to Cairo on Thursday.

Peseiro, who led Nigeria to a runners-up finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations last year, is reportedly expected to bring in his own technical team.

This includes Nuno Ferreira as general coach, Michael José Oliveira as fitness coach, Peseiro Vítor as performance analyst, Nuno Miguel Carabato as goalkeeping coach, and Ayman Abdel Aziz.

Notably, Peseiro was offered to AmaZulu earlier this season after Usuthu fired Pablo Franco Martín.

Football agent Gerald Baloyi told Soccer Laduma in October 2024: "I can confirm that we as Vodia Sport International have applied for the head coach position at AmaZulu FC for coach Jose Peseiro.

"We have sent the coach's CV to the club and are waiting for their response."

The KwaZulu-Natal outfit seemingly passed on the opportunity to sign Peseiro, as they chose current managers Arthur Zwane and Vusumuzi Vilakazi instead.
