New Qatari club 'negotiating' Tau transfer

With a host of clubs pursuing the in-demand Percy Tau, another club from the Middle East is said to have entered the race for the South African star.

Tau's future remains the subject of growing speculation, with reports suggesting that his time at Al Ahly is nearing its end.

Recently, there were widespread claims that he and Al Ahly have reached a mutual agreement to terminate his contract, but there has been no official confirmation of this decision.

Tau's potential exit from the Egyptian giants is nothing new, as rumours of his departure began even before the 2024/25 campaign started for the Red Devils.

Since then, the 30-year-old has been linked with moves to clubs in South Africa, Egypt, Morocco, and the Middle East.

According to Ahram Gate, Qatari club Al-Gharafa have now opened negotiations with Tau's representatives regarding a potential transfer.

The report claims that talks are still in the early stages, but Al-Gharafa are looking to fend off competition from other interested parties, such as fellow Qatari side Al Khor, Qatar SC and Pitso Mosimane's Esteghlal FC in Iran.

Tau's contract in Cairo is due to expire in June 2025, and the current transfer window makes the player eligible to negotiate with the club of his choice.

The Bafana Bafana star joined Al Ahly in August 2021 and has since won an impressive 11 trophies, including back-to-back CAF Champions League titles in the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons, according to Transfermarkt.
