SAFA hush-hush on Bafana's payment issue

KickOff has learned that Bafana Bafana are yet to receive their payments for representing South Africa in recent months.

According to a reliable source at SAFA (South African Football Association), the organization has failed to pay the Bafana Bafana players and support staff for their last three training camps.

Despite the poor management from the football governing body, head coach Hugo Broos and the team continued to make the country proud by qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

South Africa competed in Group K alongside Uganda, Congo-Brazzaville, and Sudan.

"Both the Bafana Bafana players and support staff have not been compensated for the past three camps, and there has been no explanation provided," a source tells KickOff.

When contacted for comment, SAFA's head of communications, Mninawa Ntloko, directed all inquiries to the organization's Chief Executive Officer, Lydia Monyepao, who could not be reached by phone.

"I don't know anything about that, so you need to call the CEO. I don't know what you're talking about," Ntloko said to KickOff.

In related news, last week SAFA president Danny Jordaan, along with two others, appeared in the Palm Ridge Specialized Commercial Crime Court facing charges of fraud and theft amounting to R1.3 million.

He was released on R20,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court again on December 5, 2024.
