SAFA criticised amid Bafana's R46,9m AFCON prize money

Bafana Bafana received a heroes' welcome at OR Tambo International on Wednesday morning, with calls for the disclosure of SAFA's agreement with players.

The large gathering was dominated by EFF members, who were clear on their stance regarding the prize money of the national team, amounting to R46,9 million.

EFF party head Julius Malema, also called for SAFA president Danny Jordaan to vacate his position.

"It's not necessary a must, we're looking at the occasion, you must have a sense of occasion but the fact that Danny must go still remains, he needs to go," Malema told journalists at OR Tambo International."

Jordaan came under serious criticism in the build-up to Banyana Banyana's FIFA World Cup participation in July last year, after they almost did not jet out of the country as they boycotted a send-off friendly due to non-agreement over bonus payments.

The Banyana players' bonus row with SAFA created a lack of trust of the association leaders to the public.

"Ours being here, listening to Danny here does not make him a good leader, who can't answer simple questions of how much people are going to get," Malema went on.

"Patrice Motsepe does it very well, he announces there and there where the money is going and which player will get how much," he added.

Jordaan did not want to reveal to the public the bonus structure they agreed with Bafana players for progressing in the AFCON stages, after they signed the memorandum of agreement in Stellenbosch prior to their departure in Ivory Coast.

Bafana banked $2,5 million (R46,9 million) for finishing third in the tournament. The players are reportedly going to share half of the prize money, with each player set to get at least R1 million but Jordaan has insisted that he won't reveal the details of their agreement with the players to the public.
