"I told you I know which I like," he said after Al Ahly's name was drawn in the same group as the reigning DStv Premiership champions. "At least I have the chance to go home... It's okay, anything is okay for Al Ahly.
This will be the second time that Mosimane returns to his former stomping ground after ousting Sundowns in the quarter-final of the competition last season en route to Al Ahly claiming a record-extending 10th title.
"When I was with Sundowns before, we always had Wydad [Casablanca] all the time," he said when asked if the clash between the Red Devils and Masandawana was becoming something of a Champions League derby.
"We played Wydad eight times in a row. So, it's interesting, let's play Mamelodi Sundowns. Obviously, they want to beat us, but we beat them the last two times so it's okay."
The 57-year-old also backed both his current and former employers to advance to the knockout stage of this season's competition but warned against complacency against their less-fancied Sudanese opponents.
"[The group is a] very difficult one," he added. I think what will help is that the local teams [from Sudan] will cancel each other because there is going to be a local derby.
"But, the interesting part is that the two top teams [Al Ahly Mamelodi Sundowns] went to Sudan last year and did not win. It shows how difficult that group is going to be."
