'Whether he plays for Chippa or Real Madrid makes no difference'

Stanley Nwabali has been told not to worry about the name of the club that he plays for as he continues to stand as the first choice of the Super Eagles.

Nwabali has built his international profile as Nigeria’s first choice, playing all but just two of the 20 matches while attached to Chippa United.

The 28-year-old has been pushed by some back home to move from Chippa, which appears set to happen with Serge Obassa and Simon Omossola mentioned as potential replacements.

“I believe he is happy where is and no one has offered him better than what he is getting at Chippa,” says Orlando Pirates legend Williams Okpara, who is of Nigerian roots.

Okpara only played for the Super Eagles while with Pirates, the only club that he eventually played for in South Africa.

“Nwabali’s plan when he came here was to get a club and he got Chippa.

“I don’t what to know how much he is getting there.

“If he is being treated well at Chippa, and he is happy there, then that is what matters.

“He is performing at Chippa good enough to be recognized in Nigeria, so it shows how good he is.

“Any club that wants him will have to buy him for whatever money his club wants.

“Some of our Super Eagles players are in Europe but not regulars there, but Stanley is playing his best football at Chippa, so I don’t have any issues.

“He is performing.

“You don’t have to rate a player based on the club that he is playing for.

“I don’t judge a player on the club he plays for but how he performs where he is.

“Whether he plays for Chippa or Real Madrid makes no difference if he is performing for the Super Eagles.

“Let us forget about the name of the club.

“Stanley is earning a living at Chippa because that is where he has a contract, and we need to respect that.

“I was at Pirates and happy despite people back home saying I should go to Europe.

“The fact that he is playing for a so-called small club like Chippa yet is the first choice for Super Eagles speaks volume of his abilities.

“Those looking down on the PSL can do so at their own risk.

“People should respect Nwabali for where he is playing and he is a quality,” says Okpara.
