BOLD: 'Chiefs can beat Pirates in both derbies'

In a statement that is sure to be received with more than a few raised eyebrows in Orlando and elsewhere, a Kaizer Chiefs legend believes the team can win both upcoming Soweto derbies.

Chiefs are set for titanic back-to-back battles against rivals Orlando Pirates on May, first in the league (3rd) and then in the Nedbank Cup final (10th)

Whilst Bucs are the cup competition's defending champions, the men in Gold and Black have endured a 10-year wait for silverware. The fortunes could not be more contrasting.

"Both matches are important in Chiefs' case, they can't choose between them," shares Rudolf 'Gardner' Seale, the ex-Chiefs fullback.

"The league match is crucial considering their position on the log table - they need to qualify for the top eight. On the 10th, we need to end this trophy drought.

"Judging by their win against (Mamelodi) Sundowns on Sunday, I believe Chiefs can beat Pirates in both matches.

"They need to approach both matches with the same mindset they had against Sundowns. Sometimes you don't need a tactical approach, you just need the captain and the team to show up on the day," he adds.

Chiefs may not have much to play for in the league, but Seales believes holding back in the first match to avoid injuries and suspensions with an eye on the final might be a dangerous ploy.

"Winning the first match will boost the players' confidence going into the final. It is indeed possible to win both matches.

"The cup final is our chance to avoid going another 10 years without a trophy, so both derby games are significant."
