Let's take a closer look at if the readers agreed with Prof's claims...

On the Robert Marawa-hosted Sitting Down With Stan show on SuperSport, South African football great Mlungisi Professor Ngubane made a bold claim that he was a better footballer than the iconic Jomo Sono.

Ngubane agreed with former Bafana Bafana coach Ephraim Shakes Mashaba on the claim and that "football politics" made the name 'Jomo' more popular than the name 'Professor'.

The readers had a field day in the comment section of the "Even Jomo knows I was better than him" story, with a reader agreeing with Professor:

"Football's professor has spoken. I was fortunate to watch the professor in action in the twilight of his career. I fully concur with him. The man was pure class. He possessed a superb football brain and a magical left foot. Inducting him in the hall of fame is no brainer," says gsithole.

"They'll deny it laba. And he's right about playing overseas. If the playing ground was not levelled, why keep mentioning that other players were better because they played overseas?" says zakheleonline.

"I do not completely agree with Prof. The issue of who is a better or best footballer is not a question of talent or skill, it is one of impact in games especially for top teams. He did not play for top teams with pressure and never scored goals like Jomo did, also did not play overseas against even better opponents.

"If we are to talk of skill, Prof had more no doubt. Overall, he was still not close to Jomo in handling pressure and succeeding where most who have failed. Jomo is the man for me, the same way CR7 is more reliable than Messi. Leo was only good at Barca, very brilliant as well," khothakhosi.

Jomo Sono responded to the bold claims by Professor on the "Sono hits back at Ngubane" story, by stating that he respects the Bush Bucks legend's opinion but stated that he wasn't playing football to compete with Ngubane, but was only competing with himself.

Sono also questioned why they should compare themselves to each other when they're both "old and finished."

Here's what the readers had to say on Sono's response:

"This Ngubane guy behaves like 'a bitter ex', he was 'local' while Jomo was 'international'," says Oliver Poodleton.

"People are gifted in different ways. Jomo had his gift as much as Prof. Let's appreciate that we had an opportunity to witness both play. They were good and great players. It's a pity people were asked a question which needed an answer," says mogaseaub.

"I was watching the show and I was shocked. History will judge bases on stats and achievements as to who was better than the other. How many stars did Ngubane groom to be professional footballers, how many cups did he win both as a coach and player? If we rank players in SA will he appear in top 5? Mr. Ngubane must take his words back and apologies to bra J," says itumelengzukani.

"I was lucky enough to watch Prof Ngubane and Jomo Sono play. I think Prof could have done better and avoid such comparison. What did he achieve in football except winning R70k for Bush bucks in 1987 JPS Cup Final? Where is he now compared to Jomo?

"Did he play abroad? Did he rub shoulders with Edson Arentes do Nascimento (Pele) as team-mate? I wish Jomo was present when such comments were made. I think Screamer and Shakes could have had a very different view," says user129927.
