In this edition of How I Became A Goalkeeper, KickOff catches up with the legendary Kaizer Chiefs Goalkeeper Joseph 'Banks' Setlhodi.
Setlhodi reveals how he ended up being one of the top goalkeepers in South Africa after starting as a golfer.
"When Gordon Banks won the 1966 FIFA World Cup for England, I was not even a footballer but a golfer; I was playing golf then," Setlhodi tells KickOff.

"You know, in the townships, there were some sections, so one day, I came home from playing golf, and the other section, which was from my neighbourhood, didn't have money to play gambling games with the other sections.
"So the guys from my section had no money to bet or to gamble with the other sections. Back then, football was gambling.
"You scored one goal. It's half-time. You scored your second goal. It's a 'drop match'.
"So they knew I never lost. In golf, I was the best golfer. So they wanted me to bet for them. I told them, if you guys want me to bet for you, then you must allow me to protect my money.
"They were excited, 'Yes, you can play as a goalkeeper'. I was a good footballer, bear in mind. It was my money so I needed to protect it.
"It was somewhere between R15 and R20; that was a lot of money, by the way. So I had to dictate because it was money, if they don't want to listen to me, then I'm not betting for them, then I'm going home," the legend said.

"So a decision was taken for me to go to the goalposts. I think we played three games that day without me conceding a goal.
"Then came a captain of a professional football team. He said to me, 'Hey, son, where are you staying?' I told him. He said to me, I want you to play for Randfontein Zebras.
"Then, in 1967, there was a big game against Moroka Swallows Big XV at Mohlakeng Stadium. And the captain of the Zebras put me in goals on that day. Bear in mind they had four goalkeepers in their books.
"Randfontein Zebras, I am talking about a big team here hey. A top-four team in the NPSL back then.
"Before the Swallows match my friends were laughing at me. They took it like a joke. They didn't believe me when I told them I was going to be in goals against Swallows.
"Swallows had the best goalkeeper in the country, Jimmy Bene. That's the day Joseph 'Banks' Setlhodi, the goalkeeper, was born. That's how I became a goalkeeper."
