Nabi's future at Chiefs hinges on Nedbank Cup?

Should Kaizer Chiefs keep head coach Nasreddine Nabi if he does not win the Nedbank Cup? A former captain of the side chips in with an interesting view.

Statistics seem against Nabi at Chiefs, particularly in the league, as at this stage last season, they had also collected 30 points.

The Nedbank Cup offers the Tunisian the only realistic chance of salvaging a campaign teetering on the brink of tragedy.

However, up against Mamelodi Sundowns in the semi-finals, a side in good form and with momentum in the closing stages of the season, no one would be surprised if Amakhosi are bundled out in the titanic clash scheduled for Sunday at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

Should a 'Nabi must go' chant start doing the rounds if Chiefs fail to secure the Nedbank Cup?

"He has signed a three-year contract, right? [Two-year contract with an option to extend for one year]. So, I think they need to give him an opportunity," Mashamaite said in response to KickOff.com.

"I mean, like, I don't think we expected him to just fix things, problems that have been persisting for the past nine seasons, in one season. We (would not) be fair to him.

"So, this was just a year of adjustment, him assessing the situation and the quality in the team. So, I think for the sake of continuity, he needs to have another season," he explained.

No head coach has stayed for at least two full seasons at Naturena since Stuart Baxter completed three years from 2012 to 2015, which was the last time the team won trophies.

According to the former PSL Footballer of the Season, that's why the Soweto giants have to be a little more patient with the former Simba tactician.

"To make sure he works on the foundation that he has layed on the first season, because we can't just keep on chopping and changing. It creates so much lack of ability, if I may use that word.

"So, I think we just need to keep believing in the man and give him more time in the team," says 'Masha'.
