Chiefs overtaken in race for Bafana striker

With the new technical team slowly taking shape at Kaizer Chiefs, developments on the incomings and outgoings are imminent and KickOff has the latest regarding Amakhosi's pursuit of a Bafana Bafana striker.

It goes without saying that with a new technical team structure being assembled by Chiefs, there are going to be major changes with the playing personnel as well.

The new technical team, to be led by Nasreddine Nabi and his assistant Fernando Da Cruz, is believed to already have their eye on specific players that would suit their system.

That is the main reason why the Glamour Boys are yet to conclude player movements, either incoming or outgoing, as Nabi and Da Cruz, who has already arrived at Naturena, are still going to run the rule on who they want and who leaves.

This publication exclusively revealed last month that the Soweto giants had opened talks with striker Luther Singh, who is currently a free agent.

The latest is that Amakhosi are not progressing in the negotiations for Singh, due to a new coach yet to be officially appointed, and that has seen them being overtaken by Romanian giants FCSB, whom they sold Siyabonga Ngezana to in July 2023.

According to a well-placed source, FCSB are now leading the race for the 26-year-old's signature, with Chiefs being delayed in the negotiations by the arrival of Nabi, who has to have his say on the former Copenhagen man.

Singh is also the subject of strong interest from Egyptian clubs Zamalek, who have had two offers rejected, and Ismaily, whose offer was also not considered good enough.

Record CAF Champions League winners Al Ahly are also believed to be interested in the Bafana marskman, but this website has been led to believe that they are yet to put a solid offer on the table.

Chiefs losing out to FCSB for Singh will depend on how quickly Nabi or Da Cruz can have their say on whether he fits the profile of strikers they are looking for.
