Percy Tau stands strong in the face of adversity

Percy Tau appears has appeared relaxed as ever despite heavy speculation around his future at Al Ahly this season. Here's a look.

The story

Many South Africans will have a keen eye to see what's next for Tau's career, as the attacker is down to the final year of his contract, which expires in June 2025.

Tau has been linked with an early exit from the club, as they reportedly want to cash in on him before he becomes a free agent.

Moreover, it has also been widely reported that he has become surplus to requirements under his manager Marcel Koller, who is said to be keen to offload the player to make room for more foreign signings in his team.

Tau missed Al Ahly's last four league matches of their title winning 2023/24 campaign, with the details around his absence being sketchy.

Despite the cloud of uncertainty around his future, the South African appears super relaxed after he was spotted in training juggling the ball and doing fancy tricks.

The 30-year-old was snubbed from Bafana Bafana's latest squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Uganda and South Sudan on 6 and 1- September, respectively.

The South Africa head coach Hugo Broos revealed that he is aware that Tau is having problems within Al Ahly, seemingly confirming the discontent between the club and player.

"I have experience and I have been criticised as a player and as a coach. His situation at Al Ahly is not clear. He did not play [much], it means there is a problem with the coach and the club. I know it, and it is not because I read it in the papers," Broos said, according to Hollywoodbets Sports Blog.
