'When they come against Sundowns, they try to prove a point'

Defender Grant Kekana explains why he believes opposition teams are out to 'prove a point' when they take Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Brazilians were held to a goalless draw by Cape Town City on Sunday at Loftus Versfeld. It was the first time Sundowns dropped points this season, having collected 11 wins from 11 matches prior to their meeting with the Citizens.

Speaking to the club's media department after the match, Kekana explained why he believes teams step up their game against Sundowns.

"We know our standards and we always try and better them," Kekana said.

"We tried (against City) but it just didn't fall for us. The effort is always there but the boys showed a lot of character, a lot of determination and really did want it (a win) but it didn't fall for us.

"Every other team, when they come against Sundowns, they try to prove a point. Everyone is trying to dethrone us so we expected a very physical and difficult match.

"It was a game that we prepared very well for, but we are proud that we managed to get a point, we didn't concede and we didn't play our normal game that we normally play.

"There are other factors but we don't make excuses. We can always improve and we are happy with the point.

Despite the draw, Sundowns still enjoy a five-point gap at the top of the DStv Premiership with three games in hand over second-placed SuperSport United.
