In the latest edition of my Locker Room Secrets, former Mamelodi Sundowns striker Kenny Niemach shares what used to take place in the club's dressing room during his time there.
Whose locker room are we in today?
"I have played under extreme coaches, I have been around experienced players like Sizwe Motaung, Roger Feutmba Eric Ramasike, and Raphael Chukwu."
Who was always late?
"Joel 'Fire' Masilela and Linda Buthelezi were always late, they were either delayed by interviews with newspapers or had some national team commitments. There was just a lot. Fire Masilela was always laughing.
"I'd even ask him what do you eat for breakfast because you are always laughing?"
Any interesting rituals before they played?
"No not at Sundowns. Not on my recollection."
Was it a muti-dressing room?
There we only prayed, there was this Kaizer Chiefs legend turned pastor Vusi "Computer" Lamola who used to visit us in camp. We prayed a lot those days."
Who was the jokester?
"Eric Ramasike. He was always cracking jokes, he loved to laugh. Him and Fire and Joas Magolego."
Who was the singer?
"Themba Mnguni and Daniel Mudau. They were singing all those chewa wa wa songs that are meant to inspire you."
Who was the best dressed and the worst dressed?
"Sizwe Motaung and Roger Feutmba, they were the gentlemen. Feutmba was always wearing nice blazers nice trousers nice ties, he was neat. They were never untidy.
"No one was worst dressed because back then the club was giving you all the Adidas Sportswear"
Who never showered?
"It was me because I lived down the road from the training. It was more convenient for me."
Rate the coach's team talk.
"Screamer Tshabalala. He was an inspiration. He was way too different from someone like Ted Dumitru.
"He made you feel comfortable because he understands the culture. He was a top motivator who loved to joke."
