Sundowns’ count up to 40 players not out...

Mamelodi Sundowns have been pushed to use up to 40 players so far this season with the possibility of another 27 games to play.

Even though they have used 40 players so far this season in 32 games, there remains others who are yet to earn minutes for the Chloorkop based club.

The Brazilians have already played in six competitions – the African Football League, CAF Champions League, DStv Premiership, MTN8, Carling Knockout Cup, and the Nedbank Cup.

In the goalkeeping department Ronwen Williams, Denis Onyango, and Reyaad Pieterse have all had minutes with Jody February yet to play as fourth choice.

Williams has played the most matches as the clear first choice but hasn't featured in the Carling Cup and Nedbank Cup.

The 2023 AFCON finals goalkeeper of the tournament has played in 27 games. 

At the back there have been minutes for Rushine de Reuck, Brian Mandela Onyango, Terrence Mashego, Khuliso Mudau, Mothobi Mvala, Rivaldo Coetzee, Divine Lunga, Zuko Mdunyelwa, Thapelo Morena, Grant Kekana, Mosa Lebusa, Abdelmounaim Boutouil, and Aubrey Modiba.

De Reuck, Onyango, Mvala, Lunga, Kekana, Coetzee, Lebusa, and Boutouil have provided the eight options in central defence.

On the flanks there has been Mashego, Mudau, Mdunyelwa, Morena, and Modiba have provided options on the flanks.

Mdunyelwa made his debut against La Masia on Tuesday evening in the Nedbank Cup.

Mashego, Mudau, Mvala, Morena, Kekana, and Modiba also played at the AFCON finals.

Sifiso Ngobeni had two substitute appearances earlier on in the season before being loaned out to AmaZulu.

In midfield Teboho Mokoena, Bongani Zungu, Marcelo Allende, Bathusi Aubaas, Lucas Ribeiro Costa, Sammy Seabi, Thapelo Maseko, Lebohang Maboe, Sipho Mbule, and Sphelele Mkhuslile have been used.  

Slightly further up the pitch there has been Thembinkosi Lorch, Tashreeq Matthews, Lesiba Nku, Gaston Sirino, Junior Mendieta, Themba Zwane, Neo Maema, Ntando Nkosi, Siyanda Nyanga, and Siyabonga Mabena.  

Matthews got his first minutes as a substitute on Tuesday.

Upfront Peter Shalulile has led the line along with Matias Esquivel and Abubeker Nasir bringing the number of players used by Mokwena this season to 40.

Esquivel scored his first goal for the club with a beautiful freekick on Tuesday. 

The pair of Musawenkosi Mdluli and Thando Buthelezi are yet to play.
