Mamelodi Sundowns' progression into the last eight of the Nedbank Cup which sets them up against Orlando Pirates will be the first cup meeting between the two in the last five years and the fifth through the last decade, with The Brazilians failing to win all of them.
The results from all the last five cup games between these two clubs show that Pirates have won four while one has been a draw.
Pirates have won all three Nedbank Cup matches which have also all been quarter-final ties, just like the forthcoming fixture.
The most recent cup meeting between the two clubs was in the 2016 Nedbank Cup with Pirates winning 2-0 after extra time courtesy of goals from Tendai Ndoro and Mpho Makola.
Pirates were also victorious in the 2014 edition of the same competition winning 2-1 while they also edged The Brazilians by a solitary goal three years earlier.

Of the two MTN8 semi-final matches played in 2011 The Bucs won 3-2 and then drew 1-1 in the second leg to progress to the final where they defeated Kaizer Chiefs one nil with Oupa Manyisa's long range shot the difference.
The last time that Sundowns overcame Pirates in a cup game was back in May 2010 when the needed extra time to win their Nedbank Cup quarter-final 3-1.
Prior to that The Brazilians had won 1-0 in the 2007 SAA Supa 8 final at the ABSA Stadium in Durban with Brent Carelse scoring the winner.
Sundowns were also winners in the 2005 Coca-Cola first round on a 3-1 score.
Five years earlier in the 2000 BP Top 8 semi-finals Orlando Pirates won 2-1 with Dennis Lota scoring a brace.
In the two-legged semi-finals of the 1997 and 1999 Rothmans Cup Sundowns were aggregate winners in both instances.
For the 1997 edition they drew 2-2 away at Pirates before a goalless stalemate at home meant they went through on the away goals rule.
In 1999 Pirates won the first leg by a single goal before Sundowns ran riot in the second leg for a 3-1 win with Isaac Shai on target with a brace while Charles Motlohi scored the other goal.
The two clubs also met in the 1998 BOB Save Super Bowl final.
They played a 1-1 draw in the initial final on May 17, 1998 and then had another 1-1 stalemate in the replayed final two months later forcing the game into penalties which were won by The Brazilians after Gavin Lane missed in sudden death.
Daniel Mudau had scored a penalty in extra time before missing the first in the shoot-out while Steve Lekoelea also missed in the fifth penalty in the shoot-out which could have won Pirates the trophy had he converted.
So, while Sundowns appear the better side now based on their recent form the overall cup form in the PSL era years cup results favour Pirates.
The Bucs have won six while The Brazilians have won five (including 1998 BOB Save Super Bowl penalty shootout win) with four ending as draws in the 13 cup games.
