Nabi's warning: Seven months not enough to fix Chiefs

Head coach Nasreddine Nabi has made a blunt assessment of Kaizer Chiefs' progress this season, with just eight wins to show from their 22 matches.

The Soweto giants suffered their ninth defeat of the season when they fell 2-0 to troubled Richards Bay FC on Sunday at King Zwelithini Stadium.

The defeat, a third in their last five, leaves Chiefs in eighth position on the Betway Premiership log table and the prospect of continental football looking slim.

Nabi, who was roped in at the start of the season with high expectations, has reminded supporters that there is still much to fix before Chiefs can relive their 2014 title-winning glory.

"We are in the process of rebuilding a team and a big club such as Kaizer Chiefs is not built in six or seven months, you need more time than that," Nabi told journalists after the match.

"We know exactly what we need to have a better team or club. And it is not today because we are losing and tomorrow when we are winning and say the opposite. I have to emphasise that we are in the building process and we know exactly what we need."

The Soweto giants now have the international break to review and recalibrate their artillery before resuming league action on Sunday, 30 March against Lamontville Golden Arrows.

"I think we play games every three days and there is not much you can work on when you play every three days. We have been struggling in that area and we hope that with the international break, we can work on certain things," Nabi added.

"But we were lacking a little bit of a big striker that can fight for the ball and we have to give credit to Richards Bay; they fought for the three points."
