SuperSport foreign quota headache revealed

SuperSport United have a headache confronting them related to their foreign quota, which has gone a long way in explaining why Samir Nurkovic is yet to make his debut for the side.

Towards the end of last week, the club announced the acquisition of Tashreeq Morris, who had been training with them and eventually joined on a one-year deal.

The 30-year-old striker has come in as a free agent after parting ways with Sekhukhune United at the end of last season.

Now, according to sources close to SuperSport, the club is trying to register Zambian attacker Gamphani Lungu as a local to free up foreign space for striker Nurkovic.

KickOff broke the news three weeks ago, on 2 October, that the Serbian had secured a move to Matsatsantsa, and it was then expected that he would make his debut against his former side Kaizer Chiefs in the Carling Knockout over the weekend.

However, he is yet to feature, leading to question marks seeing the club has not officially announced his signing.

"Nurkovic is still training with the club," declared a source.

"Lungu is currently working on his permanent residence permit, which will allow him to register as a local.

"This will help free up space for the foreign quota and allow Serbian striker Nurkovic to register with SuperSport this season."

Lungu arrived in South Africa to join the Tshwane outfit in 2018 from Power Dynamos in Zambia.
