Baroka FC reportedly make U-turn on Punch Masenamela, who returns after just one month

The former Kaizer Chiefs defender was released by Bakgaga only last month after he proved to be a peripheral figure in the 2017/18 season with only 12 appearances.

He was released in June, along with Lewis Macha, Mzwanele Mahashe, Khutso Mohwatseleng and Rethabile Soso, but the ex-Amakhosi defender is now said to be back at the Limpopo-based outfit.

The 31-year-old was signed by Baroka from Baberwa in the ABC Motsepe League in February after he went clubless in the first half of the 2016/17 season following his release from Polokwane City.

"Punch Masenamela is coming back. Punch is going to give us experience and boost us to win the league," a reliable source close to Baroka told snl24.com/kickoff.

"The main mandate for his return is to be given the job within the club once he retires."

Another source close to the club added: "I heard about it and that was it. It is what I heard that he's back at the club and that happened last week."

When this website reached out to Baroka chairman Khurishi Mphahlele, who has been seen on the sidelines during this pre-season urging his players to believe in themselves, he said that, as far as he's concerned, he has no idea about such news as he's not hands-on with player signings.

"Who told you we have re-signed him?" Mphahlele asked.

"I'm not a manager of the club, I'm not a coach, I'm not a CEO, I'm the chairman of the club and I'm always in the office. I don't know what is happening at the camp, so I don't know."

Baberwa and Baroka are believed to have an exchange partnership on players, with Masenamela not the only player signed from them in the past. Before the end of 2016/17 season, Baroka signed former Orlando Pirates attacking midfielder Nkosinathi Ogle, but he was released at the end of that season, where the club retained their PSL status via the Playoffs.
